TEAM
The team consists of two research units: the University of Naples Federico II (lead partner) and the University of Sannio in Benevento. The Naples unit also involves the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), for aspects relevant to the risk conditions of the area. Due to its composition, the team brings together multidisciplinary skills with a view to addressing environmental and territorial issues, with particular regard to geopaleontological heritage, according to a holistic and systemic vision.
The DICEA is particularly involved in carrying out research and studies on the governance of territorial transformations, sustainability, technological innovation, the analysis of the territory in its physical, functional and socio-anthropic components, also with reference to the presence of natural and anthropic risks, and the identification of development possibilities (also in terms of tourism) compatible with the characteristics of the territory. It performs the role of scientific coordination for the two research units and works in close synergy with the unit of the University of Sannio. The activities focus on territorial analyses aimed at identifying the territory's vocations, criticalities also in terms of safety and stability. The unit's main contribution consists in defining the possible actions to be implemented for the enhancement of inland territories affected by the presence of geopaleontological deposits, starting from the cases of the Ciampate del diavolo and the Pietraroja deposit. It plays a fundamental role in relations with local authorities and local communities, and in the dissemination and diffusion of research advances in both scientific and wide-ranging venues.
The DST develops studies and research in the field of natural, geological, biological and environmental sciences, also with a view to the development of palaeontological sites. It deals in particular with palaeontological aspects through specific analyses of both geo-palaeontological and palaeo-anthropological character. The Unit's expertise in the field of geo-paleontology is fundamental for the correct approach to research in reference to the two case studies of the Ciampate del diavolo sites in the province of Caserta and the Pietraroja site in the province of Benevento. The activities focus on geopalaeontological analyses and the construction of a comprehensive database for the identification and location of palaeontological finds for research purposes. The unit coordinates communication activities with conservation and preservation bodies for the validation of data use protocols. It also deals with communication and scientific dissemination aspects in close synergy with the University of Naples.
